What To Do When You Lack The Motivation To Work.
Just play music, take a break, and launch again…
Have you ever woken up with much zeal to work but on getting to work, it seems as if your inspiration and motivation went on sabbatical leave?
Oh you know what am talking about right? Let me ask again, Have you ever been stuck in the process of getting ideas as a content writer or digital product designer?
Have you been caught in the web of stress that drained your motivation and creativity for work?
I have been there too and I must tell you, it does not feel good. It feels like you should physically open your brain and use a microscope to peruse through your brain to sieve out ideas and inspirations.
It frustrates me more when I have a deadline to meet up with and my head is still blank.
One of the days, I was caught in this web and it was not funny.
I write a lot and I have this penchant for journalism, I love how journalists come out on television.
During my undergraduate days, I was a member of the Campus Union of Journalist Unizik Chapter, we usually scout for news stories as reporters. One of the days, I was given about 3 news briefs to develop, trust me, I swiftly swung into action, got my paper and pen ready, sat down to do the needful as before but every single bit of creativity deserted me to buy themselves a chill bottle of coke while I struggle to do what I usually do without stress.
I became very discouraged and demotivated. I left the work while my deadline was fast approaching but I was handicapped.
What could be the difference that day? Could it be that I lacked the right motivation? I could not fathom it, so I took a chill pill, and boom my headset was already on my head with gentle music playing.
The truth is that brain works, needs a lot of motivation and more often than not, needs creativity. When these factors are in deficient supply, the rate of productivity is usually not at its peak.
Optimum productivity is the goal of every recruiter and firm, and your inability to sustain consistent productivity regardless of some given factors will actually pose as a threat to your career and company’s efficiency.
Do you know that music contributes to mental productive and serves as optimizer for the mind?
Music is the vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) combined in such a way as to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion and i add that music is the optimizer and motivation every hard worker needs to enhance productivity.
However, findings shows that, ambient music could be the best kind of music for work productivity. Ambient music is a genre of music that emphasizes tone and atmosphere over traditional musical structure or rhythm.
In 2012, The Journal of Consumer Research published a study investigating the effects of ambient noise on creativity. The study interpreted that creativity improved when participants listened to ambient noise at a moderate volume, about 70 decibels, approximately the volume of a vacuum cleaner. The study also found that creativity suffered in the presence of high-volume ambient noise, about 85 decibels, slightly louder than a garbage disposal.

1) IT IS HEALTHY FOR THE HEART: Findings reveals that blood flows more easily when music is played. It can also reduce heart rate, lower blood pressure, decrease cortisol (stress hormone) levels and increase serotonin and endorphin levels in the blood.
2) ELEVATES MOOD: The brain’s production of the hormone dopamine can be boosted by music. The increment of dopamine production helps relieve feelings of anxiety and depression. Music is processed directly by the amygdala, which is the part of the brain involved in mood and emotions. Music can bring happiness and excitement to you and your environment too.
3) STRESS REDUCTION: It is true that listening to music can relieve stress by triggering biochemical stress reducers. It soothes the soul and calm your pressured nerves
4) CURBS SYMPTOMS OF DEPRESSION: Depression is very damaging when not attended to, music can help pick you up much like exercise.
5) SERVES AS MEMORY BOOSTER: There is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease or dementia but music therapy has been shown to relieve some of its symptoms. Music therapy can relax an agitated patient, improve the mood and open communication in patients.
6) PAIN MANAGEMENT: Music therapy can assist in pain management. by reducing stress levels and providing a strong competing stimulus to the pain signals that enter the brain. Music is the food for the soul. It massages pain and steps down there effect on the body. Music can meaningfully reduce the perceived intensity of pain, especially in geriatric care, intensive care or palliative medicine.
7) SERVES AS MOTIVATOR AND SOURCE OF INSPIRATION: Back to my story as a campus journalist, as the gentle ambient music was playing inside my head, I felt motivated to go finish the task given me. As I took my pen under the influence of that music, my pen found expression and I did an awesome work. More so music motivates and enhances your endurance during long and tasky works or exercise. Listening to those top workout tracks can boost physical performance and increase endurance during a tough exercise session.
I wonder what the world will look like without music and music gadgets. It will look like world filled with dispair, lacking motivation, inspiration and encouragement.
